Garrett Wittels, the shortstop for Florida International University, was a mere two games
away from making NCAA history. At the end of the 2010 season he was sitting on a 56 game hitting streak; the record being Robin Ventura’s 58 game streak in 1987 with Oklahoma State. Wittels went 0 for 4 in his season opener against Southeastern Louisiana University, snapping the streak at 56. Any hitting streak of that caliber, regardless of if it is record breaking or not, deserves recognition and WTP wants to give Garrett a shout out and wish him and the Panthers luck this season. Through 7 games Garrett Wittels is batting .296 with 8 hits and 7 RBIs. He will certainly have a good future at the next level.
